George Oywello – Uganda’s First Commonwealth Games’ Gold Medalist

During the 1960’s Ugandan amateur boxer George Oywello gained prominence while representing Uganda at several National and international events, including two times at the Olympic Games. Oywello would emerge as Africa Nations’ boxing champion, and become Uganda’s first ever Commonwealth gold medalist in claiming the heavyweight crown at the Commonwealth Games held in Perth in Australia in 1962.
